What can I expect at my first dance lesson?

Congratulations! You have made the exciting decision to enrich your life with dance. I can't wait to see you at your first lesson. Here are a few things to keep in mind.

Dress for comfort. Dancing engages your whole body and you will want to be able to move easily. It is best to wear comfortable, flexible clothes. To start out, you can wear athletic shoes or other closed shoes, soft-soled shoes. If you already have professional dance shoes that is great too.

Think about your goals. Is there a specific style you would like to try? Are you wanting to dance for exercise, fun or bonding with your partner, or do you have more aspirational dance goals? We should talk in advance of your lesson so that I can begin to tailor your training with me. We will craft a plan together as we go.

What will happen in the lesson? Whether or not you are new to dancing, we will begin the lesson with some basics about body movement. It is important that you understand the foundations of dance and perfect your basic movements in order to build your knowledge and understanding over time. We will talk about basic steps and actions in the styles you are interested in and I will share simple exercises and patterns that you can work on until we meet again.

Don't forget to stretch, bring your mask and water to drink, and only attend if you are feeling healthy! We are being very careful about our Covid precautions.

Finally, come relaxed and prepared to have fun. Dance is one of the most joyful experiences you can have in life! I promise that you are going to fall in love with dance and I can't wait to guide you on your dance journey!
